privacyWith the development the world, Internet is becoming more and more important in our society, such as social media. The incessant advent of social media sites extinguishes the importance of privacy in social networking. Nowadays, people share personal information on social networking sites. This is because social networking encourages persons to reveal information that may be crucial for their welfare. However, sharing private information poses terrible consequences on social media users today. Some implications come in the form of crimes such as data extortion. Furthermore, individuals report instances of data breach, especially in their accounts. Sections of people have also reported instances of identity theft because of revealing personal data. Additionally, social crimes such as cyber bullying further depict the consequences of insufficient privacy in social media sites. Nevertheless, the issue of privacy in social networks, centers on the provision of personal information especially in online accounts. These social media sites persuade people to reveal sensitive information for the purposes of owning accounts.

Today, when people join and enjoy with the social media, they should consider that the main issue arising from privacy and social networking involves the provision of private information by users, especially for online accounts. Online accounts coax individuals to own networking accounts. However, for one to own an online account, he or she should reveal the information requested by the respective online site. Social media platforms comprise websites established to enable social networking among peers. Social sites are the main facilitators of social networking. The advancements made in technology due to globalization have allowed people from different regions to interact on a single platform. As a result, the world is developing to a global village interconnected by social networking.

Usually, social media sites are more popular among young persons, especially teenagers. In the article “Teens, Social Media and Privacy,” teens share personal information on social media sites considerably. The rate at which they convey such information increases significantly. Consequently, popular media sites among the youth persuade more of them to engage in social networking. Such popular sites in the social networking realm comprise Twitter and Facebook. These sites allow people to reveal delicate information. For instance, most people post their pictures on these sites. These pictures allow them to reveal their identity to millions of people interacting in these sites.

Additionally, social media users post their birth names, places of learning or work, phone numbers as well as their email address. Therefore, social media sites possess large quantities of personal data. Furthermore, there is a drastic increase in the number of adults accessing such platforms. Adults tend to disclose private data such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers and other private data that motivate the prevalence of data breach especially in social networking sites. Thus, social media sites facilitate the provision of personal information among members seeking to indulge in social networking.

data

The main dispute arising from this issue, however, involves the responsibility of social media sites towards guarding personal information. People reveal exclusive data based on the notion that social media sites are secure. However, this is a misguided notion. Usually, social networking platforms allow individuals to reveal sensitive information at their own expense. As such, they are not liable for the harm done on the person if there is a violation of data. Social media stages are not responsible for invasions in information privacy. In the article “Social Media Privacy: A Dozen Myths and Facts,” Determann states that, “…social media platforms are not directly responsible for user generated privacy invasions”. Therefore, the possibility of data breach will not affect the social networking platform, even at the expense of data loss. As such, persons seeking to make privacy claims on these platforms will be unsuccessful. This is because privacy laws do not hinder social sites from obtaining such information.

The controversy arising from this dispute involves user-generated material. User-generated material comprises content availed to social media sites by users. This content comprises personal data such as names, pictures, internet addresses and other requested information. Social media sites entice individuals to reveal specific information for purposes of interaction. Additionally, these networking platforms allow people to share their activities, as well as private information with other users. These activities disregard the essence of privacy and put the respective users at risk. Furthermore, since the users reveal such content willingly, social media sites are not answerable for breach of such data. Answerability is admissible since users are usually aware of the risk that they face if they join the sites. Thus, the user usually possesses full information regarding his choice to interact socially.

The observance of privacy in social networking presents a formidable issue. Social networking platforms encourage people to reveal sensitive information. Such information poses various risks to the users especially if it ends up in the wrong hands. Furthermore, social media sites are unanswerable to the users if there is a breach of data. Thus, the implications arising from the privacy issue indicate the importance of information protection. Privacy in social networking is essential. This is because it ensures that delicate data is secured and free from malicious use. So, observing privacy is a vital activity especially with the substantial increase of social networking in the modern society.

Online Shopping (Revision)

online-shopping-statistics_50290cfec559dOnline shopping is becoming more and more popular in the word. It can be described as the process where a person buys items through the internet. It is gaining popularity due to its speed. The main advantage of online shopping is that it only requires three main steps for its success. The first step in online shopping is the purchase of the product. This stage involves the customer going through the varieties offered and selecting the specific product they would like to buy. The next stage is for the customer to select the shop where they would like to purchase the product. This has proven to be slightly tricky because the customer is not sure of the honesty of the shop. This means the customer can easily be conned by a fake shop. The next stage in online shopping is the procedure of payment where the customer can pay for the product using a credit card on the internet. This has also proven to be risky because, through this, the customer’s details are leaked. Finally, in online shopping there is physical delivery. Deliveries can be shipped, picked from stores or downloaded

Online shopping is advantages in that the buyer does not have to purchase the product immediately. After the customer has viewed the product, they can always come back to the same site when they have the money. Discount coupons can also be used in online shopping. The coupons are acquired from online shopping websites. However, these coupons can only be applied in some shops. This means that the customer is forced to search for a shop that accepts the discount coupon. The introduction of mavatar has made things easier for online shoppers. This is because this site brings together similar products from different sites. This means the customer can access the different products without the burden of going to so many sites

Online shopping does not only have market advantage, but also can stimulate consumer easily for shopping, especially for women. For instance, in the article on the Huff Post, Tech dated June 26 2013; Bill Robinson claims that women perceive online shopping as a form of entertainment, unlike men. This has promoted the targeting of the women shoppers by these online companies. Online shopping companies also target women because women shop from everyone, unlike men. This means that women can shop for a variety of products. Other online customers also believe that they are able to save more through buying online. This is because most products on the online sites are discounted. People also prefer online purchasing because they are able to compare from a variety from different parts of the world. Therefore, customers feel that they can buy quality products at reasonable prices.

Therefore, online shopping, despite all the risks that it is facing, is still preferred by many people in society. This is because it makes work easier and provides a variety. With the market advantage, online shopping can have cheap price of goods and a lot of consumers. It even avoids some unnecessary risks when people start online store. In addition, women are the major target for this type of shopping because they enjoy shopping compared to men. The women also buy a variety of products in bulk since they shop for their children, spouses and even family members. Unlike men, women enjoy shopping and online shopping makes everything easier. In the future, we cannot deny online shopping would be instead of regular shopping more or less because it has unique advantages. Still, we need to focus on its safety and privacy when we enjoy the convenience of online shopping.

Lock backgroundThe Internet is increasingly becoming a part of people’s daily lives. Much of society’s activities, such as convenient shopping, gaining instant access to information, communication and social interaction, amongst others can be done online. Some activities, such as purchasing, require people to provide information about their identity over the Internet. This has brought about the issue of privacy. As the Internet is becoming increasingly popular, it is also eradicating privacy. Today, people can be monitored from anywhere using the cyberspace, a fact that undermines privacy. One reason why it is important to care about privacy is the fact that it provides security.

With all the activities that people can do over the Internet, a lot of information including bank account numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers, passwords and email contents, are conveyed. Such information can provide access to one’s money and personal information. Therefore, having protection over such intrusion is extremely important for security. It is common that nowadays people lose money and provide incriminating information to unauthorized parties. This has allowed people to steal identities and other things. Therefore, it is crucial that one ensures privacy of their information online in order to remain secure from such swindlers. Privacy ensures security from such crimes that come with providing too much information to insecure websites and networks.

In an article about privacy and Internet, many people still do not care about privacy over the Internet. In order to illustrate the importance of this matter, the author challenges those who do not believe in the importance of privacy to post their private information over the World Wide Web where anybody can see it. This would allow anyone to use such information to his or her benefit. When such data entrusted to an organization goes into the wrong hands, it would pose a great risk. For instance, if private security information entrusted to law enforcement agencies such as FBI leaked to a terrorist, it would increase the risks of terrorist attacks. The main point to note here is that privacy offers security. This is because unknown information about an individual cannot be used against him/her. For instance, if a person does not know where you live, it would be hard for them to attack you or even track you down. Thus, privacy offers security and people need to take this seriously

It is evident that privacy over the cyberspace poses one of the greatest disadvantages of World Wide Web. Despite being a tool that makes people’s lives better and easier, one has to be concerned with disadvantages of the Internet and think of the information he/she uploads. To put it more simply, when information gets into the wrong hands, one does not know what could follow. Such information could be used to steal, trace and plan terrorist attacks in case data from an intelligence services got into the wrong hands. Considering that measures to ensure the security of information are available, many still do not regard this as a major issue. Some will probably never believe it until something happens to them. Therefore, people need to recognize that privacy is a form of security that one should dearly protect.

web-enhancedWith the development of society, technology affects all kinds of activities in our lives. As a college student, I can tell that schools are using more and more tools based on advanced to help the education process. Upon attending college in the US, I got the chance to experience a new way of learning called Web-Enhanced Classroom . This is a class that combines both old traditions and new technology. Teachers and students meet in the classroom, as they would in regular classes, but all the homework and quizzes in the web-enhanced class are done online. The most important benefit of a web-enhanced class is that it helps students to not fall behind on fast-developing technology that is important to society. In addition, the paperless classroom may be more suitable for college-age learners than traditional education methods. As college students, we value it when the things we learn at school can help our lives outside of college. Computers have become widely used in society, and every company needs employees who not only work hard, but also have the ability to use computers in a sophisticated and knowledgeable way. Through the learning process of the web-enhanced classroom, we learn how to submit our schoolwork online and get hands-on experience with new software. This kind of class helps students get both knowledge obtained from the traditional learning style and experience how new technology plays a role in society. Web-enhanced classes also may trigger students’ interest to become active learners.

Web-enhanced classes help students to keep track of society’s technological progress and make the learning process more enjoyable. However, one of the problems with it is that it can actually also lead us to a condition where we can’t concentrate on single thing anymore. For example, as the given time for an online test is always pretty long, I always do a few questions first, take a short break, and then go back to the test. I can even chat with my friends on Facebook while I’m taking the test. As a result, the time I spend concentrating on an exam is much shorter than in a traditional testing environment. I don’t think this is what we want from these new technologies. If the web-enhanced classroom makes us lose our ability to focus on one thing, we should reconsider whether it’s a good way to study.

learnLosing the ability to concentrate long-term is not the only thing that bothers me. What’s worse, I don’t feel I have learned anything after the web-enhanced class, and some of my friends have the same feeling. One of the biggest problems with the web-enhanced classroom is internet-based cheating. If the quiz is taken outside of the classroom, students can finish the test with a lot of outside help. For example, math problems can be done using Google research, or an essay can be looked up online. From the article “Cheating in Online College Classes: A virtual Epidemic,” Jamie Littlefield talks about the issue that students cheat for their coursework. He says “Online students often cheat during unsupervised exams when they are asked not to use any books or notes, but choose to use them regardless of their instructions.” This problem is becoming more serious, as the internet has become more widely used at universities. College students can’t get anything valuable from cheating; even though it may lead to higher graders, they won’t learn anything. Web-enhanced classroom may provide students with an easier and faster way of getting a good GPA, but it has changed how we think and learn in the classroom. Getting good grades should be something you achieve from hard work. Taking an exam in the classroom creates pressure to study and help the students to really learn something. If you don’t study, you get nothing. I think that the proper amount of pressure can encourage students to work harder. Schools should maintain the traditional classes to help motivate students to learn more and not just turn to the internet for help or look up answers when facing difficult problems.

After several online class experiences, I figured out that I like this learning style. In the article “Why Online Education Works,” Alex Tabarrok indicates that there are lots of principle advantages to online education. It does not only offer tremendous savings both in terms of money and of time, but also increase the quality of education for many courses. This is the reason why it becomes popular in the world. No matter what direction education-technology is heading, it helps students figure out the most effective learning methods. Therefore, learners should make the best use of these resources.

The Social Network

social networkNew stuffs are always appearing online and people are always willing to try fancy thing. How important do you consider social network is in our life? Obviously, the usage of Internet changed some way people used to live. We read some news from social network websites but not from newspapers. We post whatever we want on social networks to share our lives with others. There is no doubt that social networks are the most popular things in recent years. From the Social Network Statistic, more than one billion people try to use Facebook. People are getting used to this kind of fast and easier expressway. We can be someone who is totally different from ourselves online and this is a new lifestyle.

If I have to show some opinion about the Internet and myself, I need to say that I’m a digital native. For this I mean I’m so familiar with Internet and I just can’t live without all these social networks. In the morning when I get up, the first thing I do is to pick my iPhone up and check all my social network websites. I reply to my friends no matter what they said, even there is just a “Like” on Facebook. It will make me feel upset if I didn’t see any common from them. I post things on my home page every single day. Most people who are using social networks are just the same as me. No matter it’s a photo or just one sentence of boring things, we should post something. Social network users like to share what their life looks like and sometimes people are more out-going online than in the real life. Social networks helps introverted people to pull out their outgoing parts from the inner heart. They have become an important daily activity, just like brushing teeth or have some food.

However, having a deep love for social networks bring us little trouble. After I read one blog about everyone is playing his or her cellphone while eating, I recognize the same problem around me. Most time when several friends meets together for a meal, everyone has a smartphone in hands at the waiting time and the time after we finish our dinner. We don’t do that much talk than we used to. The problem of social network addiction is so serious right now. I’m just afraid it will lead to the unconcerned situation between each other. People love social networks because they can build a different “me.” But when will they realize that online world isn’t real? We still need to come back to the real life. We need to talk to people face to face and communication with others through conversation but not typing words and send out.

I always think people can use social networks to build some confidence if they are too shy in the real life. But addicted to it? Please not. Though I love social networks and I still don’t want to give them up, I’m still glad that I can speak, hug, and laugh together with my friends.
